A paper on the quenching distance of hydrogen/ammonia premixed flames, led by Mr. Junichi Suematsu, a third-year doctoral student in our laboratory, has been published in Hydrogen Safety. The paper is open access and freely available to everyone.

In this study, we experimentally investigated how the quenching distance of hydrogen/ammonia premixed flames varies with fuel composition and fuel concentration. The quenching distance is the minimum gap through which a flame can propagate; when the gap is narrower than this distance, the flame is extinguished.

The findings of this study can contribute to controlling the combustion characteristics of hydrogen/ammonia fuel mixtures produced by partial decomposition of ammonia, as well as to the development of effective measures for preventing fire and explosion accidents.
